“Pray for peace. Work for peace, less hatred. Hatred in the world is constantly increasing,” Pope Leo lamented as he left Castel Gandolfo after his weekly day of rest this March 3.
In the first several weeks that the Pope went to the town outside of Rome, he stopped for a few minutes before departing to take journalists' questions. So far in 2026, he hasn't done so, and this evening he didn't speak at length. Instead, he urged prayer for peace.
He called on everyone to “truly strive to promote dialogue” and to “seek solutions without weapons to resolve problems.”
The Holy Father did spend several minutes shaking hands, and exchanging words and laughter with the faithful. He blessed the people and received the occasional gift or note, passing them on to his secretaries.
