“We want to pray for peace," the Pope said, "but I urge all authorities to truly work through dialogue to resolve problems."
Pope Leo has made another appeal for a ceasefire, though he didn't mention any country in particular as he was leaving Castel Gandolfo on Tuesday evening after his weekly day of rest.
"I wish to renew the appeal for a ceasefire, to work for peace, but not with weapons — with dialogue, truly seeking a solution for everyone," he said.
Last week, US President Donald Trump responded to Leo's repeated appeals for an end to violence by saying that he wasn't looking for a ceasefire (see video below).
But Leo lamented that "hatred is increasing and violence keeps getting worse," as he spoke briefly to reporters on Tuesday.
"More than a million people are isolated, and there are so many dead," he pointed out.
The reference to the isolation could include various situations, including Iranians without power, but perhaps especially Lebanon, where an estimated 1/5 of the entire population -- more than a million people -- is displaced. Families are living in tents or vehicles, some on the beachfront in Beirut. Lebanon has the highest Christian population in the Holy Land.
