Pope Leo laments that wars have slowed progress in peace with all creatures, and with our brothers and sisters.

May 17 marks the beginning of Laudato Si' Week, which this year falls within the celebrations of the jubilee of St. Francis, who is the author of the phrase laudato si' -- praise be to you.

Pope Leo noted the event after praying the midday Regina Caeli in St. Peter's Square.

From today until next Sunday, the Laudato si’ Week is taking place, dedicated to the care of creation and inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical.

In this jubilee year of St. Francis of Assisi, we recall his message of peace with God, with our brothers and sisters, and with all creatures. Unfortunately, in recent years, due to wars, progress in this area has been greatly slowed down. I therefore encourage the members of the Laudato si’ Movement and all those working for an integral ecology to renew their commitment. Care for peace is care for life!

The University of Oxford’s Campion Hall, a Jesuit institution, defines integral ecology as “the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world,” which “touches every aspect of human life, from political and economic to cultural, social, and theological.”

Integral ecology is based in papal writings, which we can trace back to Leo XIII.

Take a look:

Read below to see how Pope Leo linked integral ecology to St. Mary Magdalene.
