As the FIFA World Cup continues, so too do the stories of faith that are on display for the world to see.
One adorable moment comes from some Brazilian sisters who showed us what it truly means to be a fan. And these religious women's joy is not only contagious, but a lesson in how to jump, cheer, and layout a wonderful table for snacks!
And as one commenter quite rightly pointed out:
...if the Sisters already show such enthusiasm for soccer — how intense, then, must be their passion for faith and for God?🙏
Devotion before kick off
And then we move to Mexico, and the players who show how to truly prepare for a game! Players Mateo Chávez, Álvaro Fidalgo and Armando González were seen kneeling in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe inside the Mexico City Stadium, and taking the time to pray before a match.
Their devotion seemed to pay off, with Chávez and Fidalgo both scoring goals in the country's 3-0 victory over Czechia !
Equipped to win!
Moving to Eastern Europe, Luka Modric stepped out to play his 200th game for his team, Croatia, with a little heavenly help. The team's captain was seen tucking in some custom-made shin-pads featuring religious images of Mary and Jesus.
Once more, the devout player's devotion seemed to have paid off, with Croatia going on to defeat Panama 1-0 in Toronto.
While these are just a few snippets, the World Cup has proved a wonderful opportunity for Catholic sports stars to share their faith, and for fans to help them along the way.
