With dates set for the 2027-2028 release of Mel Gibson's two-part film on the Resurrection, a remastered version of The Passion of the Christ will be back in theaters this September.
The return of The Passion is scheduled for September 10-17, with tickets already available this month.
The re-release invites audiences to rediscover the film before they return to theaters for the first part of the Resurrection chapter in 2027. Audiences attending the re-release of The Passion of the Christ will see a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the new film as well.
Lionsgate has created an all-new full-length theatrical trailer for The Passion of the Christ which the studio has released with Fathom to celebrate the film’s return to theaters.
More than two decades after its release, The Passion of the Christ is the highest-grossing domestic R-rated film of all time.
Lionsgate is enlisting international distribution partners for the re-release of The Passion of the Christ in their respective markets. The re-release will begin domestically and will follow internationally.

The Resurrection of the Christ is scheduled to be released in two parts. Part One is set for release on May 6, 2027 — the feast of the Ascension that year. The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two will be released May 25, 2028, coinciding with Ascension Day and Memorial Day weekend.
