Pope Leo urged the faithful to make sure we are offering up "constant prayers" for all of the many people who are suffering and dying in conflicts around the world.
While many of us, like the Pope, are enjoying some time of rest and relaxation during the summer months, the Holy Father urged us not to forget the many people around the world who do not have such a luxury.
Speaking after leading the midday Angelus from Castel Gandolfo this July 19 -- where the Holy Father has another week or so of summer vacation -- the Pope assured that he's keeping up on the news of the various wars afflicting the world.
We continue to follow with concern the events unfolding in various countries torn apart by war and violence. Let us not forget those who are suffering and dying because of these conflicts, and let us add our constant prayers to the generous efforts for peace.
The Pope's call to constant prayer is a reminder of what the Catechism tells us about the power of prayer:
2610 Just as Jesus prays to the Father and gives thanks before receiving his gifts, so he teaches us filial boldness: "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will." Such is the power of prayer and of faith that does not doubt: "all things are possible to him who believes." Jesus is as saddened by the "lack of faith" of his own neighbors and the "little faith" of his own disciples as he is struck with admiration at the great faith of the Roman centurion and the Canaanite woman.
