Millions of people watch them every day. They tune in not for the special effects, but for a reminder that goodness is worthwhile. Dhar Mann's studio shows how small acts of respect, honesty, and forgiveness can change lives.

Fairy tales for adults that hit straight to the heart

When you turn on one of Dhar Mann's videos, you might think, “This is too simplistic.” And yet, before five minutes pass, you feel something stir inside you. A mother who mocks a waiter because she thinks he’s a “nobody” later discovers she was judging her future son-in-law. A popular girl who bullies an unpopular classmate only passes to the next grade thanks to her victim's help.

Does that sound trite? Maybe. But hundreds of thousands of comments under these videos show that this “triteness” touches hearts.

Dhar Mann, the creator of what is currently one of the internet's most popular channels for inspiring videos, says, “We're not just telling stories, we're changing lives.”

From rock bottom to a mission

It wasn't always like this. Dhar Mann openly admits that at the age of 30, he was at rock bottom. He was broke, recovering from a difficult breakup, and struggling with depression.

“I had so much anxiety that I’d wake up a lot of mornings with my sheets completely soaked from sweat,” he recalls.

Then he began a path of change. He turned to prayer and self-improvement before making a decision. He wanted to help others who felt the way he once did.

In 2018, he began recording his first videos. He had no budget and no known actors. He relied only on authenticity and a single message: good comes back. Within a few years, Dhar Mann became the “Moral Philosopher of YouTube” (as The New York Times called him), and his channel accumulated billions of views.

Your suffering can become a superpower

The key to his success is simplicity. Every video is a short story. Someone judges a person unfairly, or experiences humiliation or loneliness, until a moment of truth, change, and reconciliation finally arrives. These are not sophisticated scripts. The videos feature ordinary people and non-professional actors.

According to Mann, that’s exactly why they are so real; they believe in the mission. They don't fake emotions, he says; they really want to change the world.

Popular threads include peer violence at school, exclusion, and loneliness, as well as unexpected acts of kindness that lead to forgiveness and healing.

A studio with a mission

Today, Dhar Mann Studios is a massive production center in Burbank, California, that creates several hours of video content each week. All of the videos have a message. They are all child-friendly and promote family values.

The impact goes beyond the internet. Dhar Mann also supports real-world causes, including adoption foundations, food banks, environmental campaigns, and help for victims of violence. Some of his videos simultaneously serve as fundraisers. As he puts it, it’s not enough to talk about doing good; you have to do it.

To some, these videos resemble contemporary parables. Maybe that’s exactly why they speak to millions of people. They show that being good, compassionate, and forgiving is simply human. It recalls the words of St. Paul: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Rom 12:21). Dhar Mann delivers this message in a modern way using a camera, YouTube, and TikTok, but the goal remains the same.

Maybe this is exactly what we need today

Although we know well that life is not quite so simple — people don’t change overnight, and a single act of kindness isn’t enough to end long-term violence — these videos have something deeply moving about them.

They offer an antidote to the hate, aggression, contempt, and cynicism that flood social media today. They remind us that even if the world does not become better immediately, it is worth remaining faithful to goodness.

Maybe that is exactly why they are gaining such huge popularity. Maybe today's world needs a simple but strong message: Good conquers evil. Be good, regardless of how much evil you experience.
