Well, this was a pleasant surprise.

I got a nice fat manila envelope in the mail today and found two copies of this inside:

“Goodness and Light” is a collection of reflections for Advent and Christmas, with writings by Pope Francis, Thomas Merton, Maya Angelou, Kathleen Norris, Harper Lee, James Martin “and many more.”

I’m one of the “many more.” I’m humbled and more than a little astonished to find myself between the same covers as these people.

It’s a handsome little book, and I imagine it will look nice wrapped in pretty paper and slipped under someone’s Christmas tree.  (Or, even better, placed beside someone’s dinner plate at Thanksgiving, to be read during Advent…)

It’s published by Orbis. The introduction notes:

God’s light shines in the darkness, and always will, but the darkness just can’t get it. We often think we are alone and cold and separate from the light but, thank God, Christmas comes every year to remind us that we never left the bosom of love where we always are, where beats eternal the heart of mercy, gratitude and joy.

Want to read more? You can order it through Amazon or here, at the Orbis website. Kudos and thank you to editor Michael Leah for inviting me to be a part of this!
