From the Facebook page of the North Bend, Oregon police:

This morning, our dispatcher informed me that there was something I might want to see on our video surveillance system in our front lobby. I caught the attached still from that system… Seems a homeless gentleman came to our PD to report the theft of some of his items overnight…including his shoes. The theft occurred outside of our jurisdiction and so Officer Brent Gaither notified the proper law enforcement agency and told the gentleman he could wait in our lobby until the officer arrived to take his report. In the meantime, Officer Gaither ran to the hospice nearby and picked him up a pair of boots. I caught him on video when he returned to deliver them. What do I love about this story most? Officer Gaither didn’t tell me he was going to do that, he didn’t tell me after he did it, and Dispatcher Heather Young took it upon herself to notify me what was happening. Humble and compassionate community policing…that’ll make a chief proud! Thank you, Officer Gaither and Dispatcher Young for going the distance for another in our community! Pay it forward… Chief Kappelman
