Ordination update: 9 new deacons in Boise

Deacon Greg Kandra - published on 11/04/12

The bishop himself made the announcement on the diocesan website:

Dear Friends,

On Oct. 27, nine men from across the diocese were ordained as permanent deacons:  Robert Barros-Bailey, Don Blythe, John Carpenter, Ray Daigh, David McCarthy, Terry Nelson, Jim Pasker, Jeff Powers and Tom Turpin. Because he receives the sacrament of Holy Orders, the deacon is called to serve God’s people in a variety of ways: by teaching the Word of God, assisting at the altar, distributing the Eucharist, blessing marriages, administering Baptism, presiding over funerals, proclaiming the Gospel and preaching, administering viaticum to the sick, leading Sunday celebrations in the absence of a priest, and living a life of charity and service. Since most deacons are married and have children, they are also called to give clear witness to the sanctity of marriage and family life. As we celebrate these ordinations, it is important for us to remember that all of us are a part of the one mission of the one Church – all play an important role in building up the Kingdom of God here in Idaho. As we pray for our deacons – new and old – let us also continue to pray for each other that we may all remain faithful to our individual vocations.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Michael P. Driscoll, M.S.W., D.D.
Bishop of Idaho

Thanks to deacon candidate Bill Burns, for passing this along.

Congratulations, brothers!  Welcome!  Ad multos annos!
