A Catholic school in Arkansas is getting a lot of attention online after posting a sign to parents about forgotten items on its Facebook page. The Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock, Arkansas posted a photo of the sign that reads “If you are dropping off your son’s forgotten lunch, books, homework, equipment, etc., please TURN AROUND and exit the building. Your son will learn to problem-solve in your absence.” Since being posted on Aug. 10, the post has been shared more than 115,000 times and has received a mixed reaction on social media. “Kids won’t learn on an empty stomach. If a parent is willing to bring their child materials or food and pay you a hefty chunk of tuition change, stop talking,” one comment reads. “What an idiotic thing to say,” another person wrote. “If they were ready to problem solve by themselves, they would no longer be in high school. Stop expecting children to be adults.” Others applauded the message, writing “I LOVE this.”

Read it all.

The principal spoke about this sign recently:

“We put a sign up on the front door to not only alert new parents to the policy, but to remind people why we do it,” said Principal Steve Straessle. Straessle said, “It’s simply to help boys avoid the default switch of calling mom and dad when things don’t go right to bail them out.” Parents sounded off on Facebook, “Give kids a break!” While others wrote, “You learn by taking responsibility, not by escaping it.” And that’s what Straessle said is the whole goal of the school.

Works for me. Kudos to the principal.
