Connie, a social worker, tried for ten years to find a home for one of her cases, a boy named Taylor. He and his sisters were adopted, but he was returned after his adoptive parents deemed him too angry:
“Every child is adoptable,” Connie said. “There’s a family for every child.” Neglected by his drug-addicted biological parents, Taylor has always felt unlovable. “I was just so mad because I thought that they weren’t going to keep me,” Taylor said. “I was just trying to test them.” Connie never gave up him. She was determined to find him the right home. “All I could think about was how he was feeling and how he was blaming himself, again,” Connie said. Connie was so upset, she became physically ill — so she filed the paperwork to adopt Taylor the very next day. After a decade, Connie is now officially Taylor’s mom… “He’d go, ‘I’m leaving. I hate this,’” Connie said. “And I’d be like, ‘I’m not sending you away, Taylor.’ And he would look over at me, take his backpack off and head back in.”
Connie went above and beyond the call of duty, allowing her maternal instincts to love and care for this boy, and to this we say WOW.
