The saints’ feast days marked the seed-time and the harvest. The weather was a prime preoccupation in this hard and precarious life, as countless popular adages testify. The calendar saints are bound up with the rhythm of the seasons and every prayer for their intercession was aid against unpredictable winds, rains, and drought. Ever at the mercy of the weather, we can still invoke the saints throughout the year, depending on how the weather is in our corner of the world…
