Les Pauvres de Saint-François (The Poor of Saint Francis) are an order of Franciscan monks from Quebec, Canada. They began in the 1970s with just 3 monks and have grown to 13 today. As is the custom with Franciscans, they have taken a vow of poverty.

While they have not released any albums, they do have an extensive library of audio recordings available on their website, as well as video recordings. They always make their recordings in the their chapel, which really catches their rumbling bass notes.

“Anima Christi” is a Catholic prayer to Jesus from the Middle Ages. Sung in Latin, the sequence of sentences have a rich association with the concepts of the Eucharist, Baptism, and the Passion of Jesus. Many composers have written settings of the “Anima Christi,” including Lully and Valentini.

This version of “Anima Christi” was composed by Marco Frisina, an Italian Catholic priest who currently holds the position of director of the Pastoral Worship Center at the Vatican. He has composed more than 50 pieces of sacred music for orchestra and chorus.
