The country singer's son Tyler was born with Down syndrome. Diffie has raised money for the organization First Steps, which benefits those with mental and physical impairment, saying: "With Tyler it's special because any small thing he does is like a giant step."


Sally Phillips

The English actress and comedian has a son with Down syndrome. A Christian, Phillips backs the "Don’t Screen Us Out" campaign, believing that parents-to-be aren't shown the positive aspects of raising a child with special needs.


John C McGinley

The Scrubs star has taken an active role in raising his son Max, who has Down syndrome. The inspiring spokesman for the National Down Syndrome Society advocates ending the use of the 'R' word and promoting better awareness of what the condition is.


Christopher Gorham

The Covert Affairs actor describes his wife as a "superhero" for caring for their son, who has Asperger’s, while he's away working. He and his wife aim to simply give their son "the best shot at having the best life he can."


Laura San Giacomo

The actress's son, Mason Dye, was born with cerebral palsy. She wants to prove that a child with a disability is still "the greatest gift you’re going to be given."


Mark Feuerstein

The West Wing actor's daughter, Addie, was born with a rare heart condition. He and his wife were happy to share the videos of their daughter's lengthy recovery, saying: "Our hope is they might watch and see that as scary as it looks, there really can be a happy outcome."


Joe Mantegna

The actor's daughter, Mia, has autism. He points out the importance of family: "We thought if we were going to face this, let’s all face it together. Let’s do this as a family,"


Toni Braxton

The singer's memoir, Unbreak My Heart, talks of her son's autism. As a spokeswoman for Autism Speaks, she reminds us, "There is nothing wrong with our babies ... it's just what the situation is."


Greg Grunberg

The Heroes actor has a son with epilepsy, which has encouraged him to raise awareness and funds for the disorder. He believes "talking about it is so important."


Joey and Rory Feek

Before Joey died of cancer in 2016, the country singers had a daughter with Down syndrome. On discovering her condition Rory said: "Out of all the parents in the world, [God] has chosen us to care for and raise this special gift."


Aidan Quinn

The Irish-American actor's daughter Ava Eileen has autism. He admitted: "It’s a very difficult journey and I didn’t do so well on parts of it. I will tell you one thing. My career absolutely took a back seat right away and it still has to, to this day."


Jorge Posada

The former baseball player's son has craniosynostosis, a condition that can cause physical and intellectual impairment. The former Yankee wrote a book called The Beauty of Love: A Memoir of Miracles, Hope and Healing and he has created a foundation.
