4. Piazza Navona: Piazza Navona sits atop the remnants of the ancient Domitian Stadium where athletic competitions and horse races were held. Today, the center of the square features Bernini’s spectacular Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, the “fountain of four rivers” commissioned by Pope Innocent X: the Nile representing Africa, the Danube representing Europe, the Ganges representing Asia, and the Río de la Plata representing the Americas. On each end of the square, enjoy the Fountain of Neptune and the Fountain of the Moor.
