20. Gianicolo: The Gianicolo is considered the “eighth” hill of Rome. Historically, it had a very important role in the defense of the city. It was the scene of the battles against the French under Garibaldi. For that reason, the area is full of sculptures dedicated to his compatriots, with the most important sculptures dedicated to him and his life, and to his Brazilian wife and comrade-in-arms, Anita Garibaldi. Nearby is a gigantic fountain fondly called by the Romans “Il Fontanone” or “the big fountain” also known as the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola. It appears in the first scene of the award-winning film “La Grande Belleza.”
