4 Beautiful Polish Easter traditions

Vigil at the Tomb

After the Good Friday service, it is a custom to keep vigil in the Church at a statue of Jesus taken down from the cross. It is a time of silent prayer mourning the death of Jesus, but also looks forward to the Resurrection.
Wet Monday

The Easter liturgy includes baptisms and the sprinkling of holy water to remind everyone of their baptism. Boys and men in Poland took this opportunity to pour water on girls on Easter Monday in a playful jest.
Easter Eggs

Called "Pisanki," on Holy Saturday eggs are painted to represent the new life of the Resurrection.
Blessing of Food

Also on Holy Saturday, baskets of food are taken to the church and blessed by the parish priest, invoking God's blessing upon their Easter feast.
