Saint Benedict Labre, in Amettes (France)
The oldest of 15 children, Benedict Labre was born on March 26, 1748, in Amettes, in Artois. Nicknamed “God’s Vagabond” because of his pilgrimages from shrine to shrine, he was rejected by many religious congregations. He spend his childhood in this small house located at the back of a field, formerly covered by a thatched roof and surrounded by agricultural buildings. Nothing is left today but the old main building and a small chapel, built on the site of the old barn.
