Celebrating the Assumption
A huge mass of people celebrates the Assumption (Santa Marija) under Her magnificent Basilica in Mosta.  Santa Marija is the Patroness of the people of the Maltese Islands, and resides in the profoundness of their hearts. Its early origins however are difficult to trace. Indeed, the deep penetration of this Marian devotion in Maltese religious tradition is highly evident. All existing parishes till the beginning of the 17th century, as well as the more important inhabited parts of the Islands, had at least one Assumption church or altar, and today we still have nine parishes whose main feast is Santa Marija Assunta – on the 15th August or a close date | Shutterstock
