SAINT CHRISTINE OF BOLSENA: In the third century, a young convert named Christine refused to sacrifice to Apollo. She broke the idols of gold and silver and then distributed the debris to the poor. Her father persecuted her and delivered her to the executioners. She was whipped and tied to a wheel that broke her. They tried to drown her in Lake Bolsena, fixing a grindstone around her neck, but Christ himself came to save her. Then she was plunged into boiling oil. After other tortures, her skull was split with an ax.
