Putting family at the heart of the union
Many Filipino families will take part in a pamamanhikan, where the bride's and groom's parents formally meet to get to know each other before the big day. This can be done months in advance of the wedding and different regions partake in different customs, from sharing sugarcane wine to offering each other symbolic gifts.
