San Francisco de Asis Mission Church (Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico)
A large adobe structure, which almost looks more like a fort than a church, the St. Francis of Assisi Mission Church was built with the intention of providing a sanctuary for the congregation to withstand Comanche attacks in the 19th Century. It was famously the subject of several paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe.
