Chaste
St. Joseph was a man of prestigious lineage among the Jews. He could have had a fruitful marriage with biological children. But God's plans are different, and Joseph is chosen as the "foster" father of Jesus. He will remain chaste, he will protect and treat Mary and Jesus with the utmost respect, and he will give himself to this mission with all his heart. That is why the Church has made him patron of families: because he knows like no one else the true love that should reign in a home.
