St. Kateri Tekakwitha - standing out from the crowd
It's difficult to go against the beliefs of your entire community, yet this first Native American saint did just that. On converting to Catholicism, Kateri, who was plagued with pockmarks all over her face, knew she risked becoming an outcast. Yet the strength of her faith helped her to embrace God, so much so that she made a vow of perpetual virginity to become a bride of Christ.
