Cave of St. Paul

According to local tradition, this is where the Apostle John and Virgin Mary first stayed when they arrived in Ephesus, hence its other name, Kryphi Panaya, or “Hidden Virgin.” It came to be associated with St. Paul because of the many inscriptions depicting the apostle. In all, the cave contains over 3,500 inscriptions.
