This is the French version of Chiara, yet traditionally "Clair" was given to males. The extra "e" on the end made it a name fit for a girl, and we know it best as the name of the 14th-century saint Clare of Assisi. She was inspired by St. Francis of Assisi and followed his teachings to found the monastic order that is known today as the Poor Clares.
