St. Joseph Vaz
This 17th-century priest played an integral part in reviving Catholicism in Sri Lanka. Although he wasn't born in India, he was educated and ordained there, so the country had a huge influence on him. He spent time in prison after being accused of being a spy, but was released when the king of the time believed Vaz's prayers were responsible for ending a terrible drought. He spent his time caring for the sick during a smallpox epidemic.
