Servant of God Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange (1784-1882)
Dying at the age of 98, "Sister Mary" achieved much in her long life. Along with another religious sister, she founded a religious order, the Oblate Sisters of Providence -- the first order for women of African descent. She also started a school with four other sisters -- the St. Frances Academy -- which is still running today. Through devotion and and hard work the sisters evangelized the Black community.
