Personal note

If your child can read, why not add a little note inside their pencil case telling them how much you love them? A little message from mom and dad can really help give a child a boost. For younger kids a simple love heart or a little family photo should do the trick.

Scripture verse 

Does your child or your family have a favorite Scripture verse? Or maybe there's a passage that might speak to your particular child's fears or concerns? On a small card -- or perhaps even on the same personal note you may have given them -- write out the verse and remind your child to pull it out read it when he needs some encouragement.

Favorite snack

It's always comforting to munch on a special treat if you're feeling anxious. So try adding a favorite snack in your child's lunch. You could even have a bit of fun and cut out some funny shapes in sandwiches to help put a smile on any anxious faces.

Blessed school supplies

Forget magic markers -- as a family, why not bring some of your child's regular school supplies to your local priest an ask him to bless them for the upcoming school year? It's a great way to impart to your child that being a diligent student is a way to glorify God.

Religious medal

A wonderful way to bless your child is a religious medal sewn into their backpack. There are various options to choose from: a medal from your child's saint's name, your child's favorite saint if they have one, or even one of the saints closely linked to education, such as St. Thomas Aquinas or St. John Bosco, or St. Gemma Galgani, who was known to be a very conscientious student.

Notebook

You could pop a small notebook in your child's backpack with little messages of encouragement from different family members -- maybe even get grandma or grandpa involved. Your child could also jot down little notes at the front of the book of things that are going well at school. At the back of the book they could write down their concerns that they can share with you at the end of the day or week.
