Encourage autonomy
Many parents encourage children to divide their money into three parts: savings, charity, and spending. What's important is to let the children decide what cause they'd like to give their money to. Whether it's to offer a hot drink to a homeless person they see regularly, or give a lump sum to a cause that they are interested in, help your children to make decisions that mean something to them.
