On August 21, 1879, the Virgin Mary appeared to a large number of people in the village of Knock. Pilgrims still come from around the world to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Knock. In 1989, a woman was cured of multiple sclerosis during Eucharistic adoration here. Thirty years later it became the first officially recognized miracle associated with the shrine.
