This Cistercian monastery, located in southern Wales, was founded in 1129 on land donated by the knight Sir Richard I de Grenville. Neath Abbey became one of the wealthiest and most important monasteries in Wales, housing 50 monks and an even larger number of lay brothers. It was seized in 1539 and turned into an estate that quickly fell into ruin.
