A little celebration
As the austerity of the Lenten fast began to relax over the years, many Irish people would observe a "black fast," which included one meal and water on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This tradition continues today for the Irish and many Catholics all over the world. What helped to keep them going was the feast of St. Patrick, which is still celebrated across the land on March 17.
