When you start something new
Training for a new distance or trying a new form of exercise can be intimidating. If you haven’t done something before, how do you know you’ll succeed? St. John of the Cross understood the value of courage and perseverance, and these virtues of the spiritual life can translate to the physical, too. “Though the path is plain and smooth for men of good will, he who walks it will not travel far, and will do so only with difficulty, if he does not have good feet: that is, courage and a persevering spirit.” - St. John of the Cross
