Cathedral of Orvieto
Built between 1290 to 1591 in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Cathedral of Orvieto is a great place to start your pilgrimage. With a large rose window, three large bronze doors and colorful mosaics, the facade is a summary of the most striking visual elements of Italian architecture between the 13th and the 16th centuries. The interiors are a treasure trove of artworks too, with a sculpted Pietà (1579)) and a series of beautiful frescoes by Fra Angelico and Luca Signorelli, including a frescoed vault.
