Church of San Francesco
Built in 1227 on the highest point of the cliff on which Orvieto stands, this Romanesque church served as the backdrop to key historical events such as the canonization of the French King by Pope Boniface VIII. It is also the second church in Catholic history to be built in honor of St. Francis, after the Basilica of Assisi.
