Six men were ordained on Saturday, May 25, 2019, for the archdiocese of New York. (L-R) Father Joseph C. Akunaeziri, Father John J. Figueroa, Father Walter J. Genito Jr., Father Roger Kwan, Father Ryan A. Muldoon and Father Gabriel Monahan, C.F.R..
Each a son who responded to the Call placed on his heart.
They were in the presence of their mothers and families.
The candidates prostrated themselves while the Litany of Saints was sung, asking the Company of Heaven for intercession on their behalf.
Each candidate then kneels before the cardinal (bishop) making his vow of obedience. In this case Father John Paul Ouellette C.F.R. is invited to join the cardinal.
The laying on of hands by the cardinal (bishop). The moment that the bishop confers the Holy Spirit upon the candidate, marking his soul forever as priest.
At this time all of the assembled priests follow in laying hands upon the new priests. In this photo, Monsignor Robert T. Ritchie (L) and Father Luke Mary Fletcher (R) lay hands on Father Ryan Muldoon (L) and Father Gabriel Monahan C.F.R. (R).
After the laying on of hands, the new Priests are vested with their stole and chasuble, visibly identifying them as priests. They then kneel before the cardinal (bishop), who anoints their hands.
After the Presentation of the Gifts each new Priest goes before the cardinal (bishop), who says, "Accept from the holy people of God the gifts to be offered to him. Know what you are doing, and imitate the mystery you celebrate: model your life on the mystery of the Lord's cross."
And the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins.
The new priests concelebrate their first Mass along with the cardinal.
They bring the presence of Christ to the people they serve for the first time.
