Basilica of San Nicola in Carcere. The remnants of the foundation of the Temple of Janus. The niches uncovered here by excavations are reminiscent of a jail, and for this reason the basilica has been called San Nicola “in carcere” (“in jail”). Actually, they are most likely moneychangers’ storerooms.
