Nothing’s sadder at Christmastime than an orphan. But Nicholas, a kindly child who believes in Santa Claus and everything he stands for ever so much, gets the chance of a lifetime: Old Kris Kringle is set to hang up his hat, and he needs to train a pure-of-heart orphan to take his place. Naturally, the apprenticeship doesn’t always go according to plan, but rest assured that Nicholas will, eventually, prove a worthy Santa successor. This animated movie was actually a French/Australian/Irish production that won an award from UNICEF back in 2011, and has been a seasonal favorite on Netflix since 2015. It’s a reasonably sweet-if-lightweight story that kids may enjoy more than their parents.
