The singing of carols, Poland
Poland has many ancient traditions to celebrate “Sylwester” (Polishfrom Saint Silverster) including fairy-tale like races between horse-pulled sleighs and sledges. But it’s perhaps the importance of music, in particular carols, that make Polish celebration unique. Starting from midnight, it’s common to hear concerts and carol performed across churches and auditoriums throughout the country, and when the weather permits, even outside on the streets.
