Sr. Lucia Marie of the Visitation prays in the choir (the nuns' chapel), which is located in the enclosure at the cloister.
At the beginning of the rite, Sr. Lucia Marie lies prostrate as a sign of complete submission to Christ and His will. The prioress, Sr. Mary Martin, asks "What do you seek?," to which Sr. Lucia Marie answers "God's mercy and yours."
The white veil that Sr. Lucia Marie is wearing will be removed and replaced with a black veil once her First Profession is made.
"I, Sr. Lucia Marie of the Visitation, make profession and promise obedience to God, and to Blessed Mary, and to Blessed Dominic and to the Master of the Order of Preachers, and to you Sr. Mary Martin de Porres of Jesus, prioress of this Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, and to your successors, according to the rule of Blessed Augustine, and the constitution of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers ..."
The white veil worn throughout the Novitiate is replaced by a black veil signifying consecration to Jesus alone.
"Gracious God, veil me with your redemption and grant me the strength to overcome the world, the flesh, and evil. Mary, most merciful, and Holy Father Saint Dominic, protect me now and in the hour of death. Amen."
"By profession the nun dedicates herself to God, following Christ and leading the Gospel life in the Order. This profession is the fuller living of her baptismal consecration, and it achieves its effect more completely."
After the First Profession, the Liturgy of the Eucharist is offered. Msgr. Gerard McCarren faces the choir (nuns' chapel) along with the congregation, who are facing the altar.
The moment of consecration of the Blessed Sacrament.
After Mass, Sr. Lucia is greeted by Sr. Mary Martin in the sacristy.
Sr. Lucia Marie enters her name in the book of profession, which is then signed by the presider and the prioress.
And with tears of joy, Sr. Lucia Marie is congratulated by friends and family in the parlor.
