The First Saturday Devotion is based on the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima to Sister Lucia dos Santos on December 10, 1925.
Father Andrew Apostoli, founder of the Community of the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. Father Apostoli passed on to eternal life on December 13, 2017. He considered the devotion crucial to bringing peace to the world. He explained, "The lack of the First Saturday Devotion is the missing piece."
As the live stream of the First Saturday Devotion got underway, people from all over tuned in to participate and pray with the Sisters.
St. Michael's Church, located in the Parish of St. Monica, was host to the event. Due to severe water damage that occurred on April 22, the upcoming First Saturday Devotion will be held at a church a few blocks away.
The 4 pillars of the devotion are (1) Go to confession (as soon as possible before or after the First Saturday) (2) Receive Communion on the First Saturday (Spiritual Communion, or as soon as possible in light of the current circumstances) (3) Pray the Rosary during that day. And (4) Meditate for 15 minutes on the Mysteries (one or all).
Sister Ann Kateri offers meditations on the Sorrowful Mysteries.
Jesus explained why it is 5 consecutive First Saturdays to Sr. Lucia on May 29-30, 1930.

"Daughter, the motive is simple. There are five kinds of offenses and blasphemies spoken against the Immaculate Heart of Mary."

First: Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception
The second: Offenses and blasphemies against her virginity
The third: Offenses and blasphemies against the Divine Maternity, refusing, at the same time, to receive her as the Mother of mankind
The fourth: Offenses and blasphemies those who seek publicly to implant, in the hearts of children, indifference, disrespect, and even hate for this Immaculate Mother
And fifth: Offenses and blasphemies against by those who revile her directly in her sacred images.
