Valmagne Abbey, Hérault
Founded as a Benedictine abbey in 1138 and later turned into a Cistercian monastery this monastery has been home to wine making since the 12th century. During the French revolution when churches were either sold or destroyed, this complex was sold to a local landowners that turned the main church area into a wine cellar. Today, the abbey is no longer active but it’s considered a historical Catholic monument.
