Christmas market
This centuries-old market is everything you expect from European Christmas markets. Festive decorations, handmade local crafts, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts can be enjoyed against the dramatic backdrop of the 14th-century Cathedral. No wonder it is known to locals as “Oh Bej Oh Bej,” meaning “Oh beautiful, oh beautiful!” which according to a tradition was the cry of joy that children had when seeing gifts brought to the Milanese by Pope Pius IV’s envoy Giannetto Castiglioni at the 1510 market.
