Life at Enda’s monastery was austere in imitation of Christ’s life. Enda and his monks dedicated their lives to fasting, prayer, and the study of Sacred Scripture. They became famous for their holiness. Other monasteries soon sprang up across the Aran Islands and beyond. Many of Enda’s followers also became saints – as did his sister, St. Fanchea. Enda of Aran died in his cell after a long life dedicated to God, renowned as a warrior for peace and sanctity. His feast day is March 21.
