Apse mosaic, Basilica of Santa Pudenziana, Rome
Wall and ceiling mosaics were common in late 4th-century basilicas like Rome’s Santa Pudenziana, considered the oldest place of Christian worship in Rome. The mosaic created to decorate its apse depicts Christ surrounded by the apostles.
