SAINT-MICHEL DE CUXA ABBEY
At the foot of the Canigou (a mountain in southern France), rises, in the middle of orchards, a monastery surmounted by a magnificent Romanesque bell-tower pierced with pairs of arched windows. Founded in the 9th century, Saint-Michel de Cuxa Abbey is occupied by Benedictine monks. A must-see: the cloister, partly reconstructed, the pink marble capitals of which are a remarkable testimony of Romanesque sculpture.
