FONTENAY ABBEY
Located in the north of Burgundy, the abbey of Fontenay was founded in 1118 by St. Bernard of Clairvaux and remains the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world. Classified as a historic monument in 1862, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. Every year it welcomes more than 100,000 visitors who come to admire the beauty and purity of its architecture, preserved for 900 years.
