Big Fish - Burger King

The first thing you should know about Burger King's Big Fish sandwich is that you should never buy it. It's very overpriced for an unremarkable sandwich.

North Pacific Cod Sandwich - Wendy's

The bread was exceptional, but the fish seemed way too small for it. While the cod wasn't too bad on its own, there were way too many pickles on it and the sauce left us with an incredibly unpleasant aftertaste. This is one to avoid.

Filet-o-Fish - McDonald's

The Filet-o-Fish was not particularly memorable. The fish was very soft, with nearly the same consistency as the bread. For some reason they felt they felt the need to add a slice of cheese to it. We might go back for another, but we would order it without the cheese.

Crispy Fish Sandwich - Checkers

One of our favorites last year, the Crispy Fish Sandwich fell short in 2020. It was supremely sloppy and the tartar sauce was mixed with pickle juice for a truly nightmarish flavor. It lingered long after we rinsed our mouths out. This sandwich is not for the faint of heart.

Premium Fish Sandwich - Sonic

Sonic's fish sandwich was a little better than some of the others, but not by much. The fish taste was definitely there, although once again the sauce was overpowering, but this sandwich had a very satifying crunch to it. It's a mid-level sandwich that could serve you well in a pinch, but you may not want to go out of your way.

Pacific Cod - Long John Silver

Here we have an excellent choice from a company that exclusively produces fish entrees. The fish was delicious, with very little tartar so it was not the focus of the flavor. Although one of our tasters felt it was a little too bready, it was found to be palatable and filling. It has an added bonus of being the cheapest item on this list, about half as much as the other contestants.

Fish Sandwich - Chick-fil-A

The clear and undisputed winner of this year's comparison was Chick-fil-A's Fish Sandwich. It was glorious, perfectly breaded and fried with two fillets on one delicious sandwich. They don't put any tartar sauce on your sandwich, but they give you packets on the side so that you always have just what you want. Their service was also the fastest and friendliest of all the stores we visited.
